Fostering Healthy Grief Balancing Joy and Sorrow

Program Type: adults, group, parents-caregivers

About the Group:

Join Kujenga Family Wellness Project, as we present a six-week virtual group exploring grief and loss. In this series, our group aims to provide a supportive space to process experiences of grief, develop coping skills toolbox and build a community with each other. Activities will include opportunities to explore alternative perspectives, externalize the problem, and examine internal and external strength-based resources (narrative component).

The adult grief group will run virtually for eight-weeks to provide participants with peer support through the grieving process. Each hour and a half session will take place on Fridays in the months of February to March, 2022.

Narrative therapy is used to provide participants the ability to re-write their stories and create healthy distance without complete avoidance (Good Therapy, 2016). The goal of this group will be to support adults with processing and managing the after effects of grief and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Our program’s overall intended impact on participants’ health/lives in the next few years:

  • Participants will receive grief education that they can refer to in the future and social connection (psychoeducation component).
  • Participants will develop strategies and accessible tools that will help them manage triggers and feel better equipped to cope with the transitions associated with grief and loss.
  • Participants will listen to other group members can elicit hope and normalize unique grief responses.
